ONTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMMITTEE UPDATE

Ontario Government Makes Arrangements for an Accessible Room, A.S.L. and Captioning for First Day of Second Reading Debate on Bill 118

November 5, 2004

We have just been advised by the office of Citizenship Minister Dr. Marie
Bountrogianni that the Government of Ontario has taken the following steps
to improve accessibility for the first day of Second Reading debates,
November 18, 2004, on Bill 118, the proposed Accessibility for Ontarians
with Disabilities Act. We are advised that there will be:

* American Sign Language interpretation

* In addition to the very limited accessible seats in the galleries of the
legislature, an accessible room will be available to view the proceedings on
a TV monitor.

* In that room, captioning will be available for those who require it as
well.

We will provide further details when we get word of them. We appreciate the
Government providing these Accommodations. If other accommodations are
required, please contact:

Jodi Melnychuk
Policy Advisor
Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration

We again encourage one and all to take advantage of these measures, and to
come to the Legislature on November 18, 2004, between 3 and 6 p.m., to watch
the proceedings. Let us know if you can make it. Contact us at:

oda@odacommittee.net

And let your MPPs, from whatever party, know that you want them to support
and not oppose this legislation.
