Ontario Government's
New ODA Bill 125
Correspondence with Government on Bill 125
Letter to the Hon. Cam Jackson, Minister of Citizenship
from Tony Martin, MPP NDP Disability Critic

dated November 28, 2001

November 28, 2001

Hon. Cam Jackson
Minister of Citizenship
6th Floor, 400 University Ave.
Toronto, ON M7A 2R9

Dear Mr. Jackson,

I am writing today to ask you to join me in attending a public hearing in
London, organized by the local ODA Committee. The hearing will be held on
Saturday, December 8, 2001, from 10 am to 12 pm at Mount Hope Long-term Care
Facility, in the main floor auditorium, 21 Grosvenor St.

The committee has organized this hearing because they feel the voices of those
living with disabilities in London need to be heard on your proposed ODA
legislation, Bill 125. They are incredibly disappointed with the fact that you
have excluded them from the official hearings.

I am going to sit on their panel to hear what the people of London have to say
with regards to Bill125. I strongly believe you should do the same. This is a
very important piece of legislation that is a long time in coming. People with
disabilities have been working very hard to ensure the enactment of a strong
ODA. Now that legislation is on the table they want a chance to speak to its
effectiveness and things that can be done to make it better. These are the
people who worked for this legislation and whose lives are affected by this
legislation, we should not turn our backs on them now.

Please join me in London on December 8th. We need to hear what they have to
say.

Sincerely,

Tony Martin, MPP
NDP Critic on Disability Issues
