STEVE PETERS, M.P.P. LAUNCHES
ODA TOUR IN NORTH BAY

Monday, March 06, 2000:   Queen's Park:   MPP Steve Peters is meeting real people with real challenges. The Liberal disabilities critic is consulting with disabled persons and other stakeholders to hear what should be contained in a strong and effective Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

"The people I am meeting do not want handouts just a level playing field," says Peters. "The removal of the barriers that people are facing will go a long way toward true independence. Monday's submissions will demonstrate the courage of people with disabilities fighting to overcome countless barriers in their daily lives."

Peters' Ontarians with Disabilities Act Consultation Tour is visiting 15 cities across Ontario this month. Individuals and groups will be making submissions on the barriers faced by people with disabling conditions in this province at the:

DAAY Centre
239 Main Street
North Bay
7:00 - 9:00 PM.

"I have spoken and met with several groups and individuals and they are outraged about the government's failure to keep their promise on this issue," says Peters. "Mike Harris promised to enact tough legislation to remove the barriers people with disabilities face during the 1995 election. Five years and three ministers later, people are still waiting."
