Dear Premier Harris:

Re: Ontarians With Disabilities Act

On December 8, 2001, we wrote you, asking for a meeting with you to discuss
the Ontarians with Disabilities Act. We have not received a reply to this request.

The recently released public opinion survey conducted for your Government
on the topic of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act shows that there is widespread
public support for the legislation we have been seeking; namely a law which
covers the public and private sectors, and which is mandatory not voluntary.
As you know, our own polling data, provided to your Government, also shows
clear public support for enactment of strong, effective legislation in this area.

Further strong support for this legislation comes from the resolutions passed
by over 20 municipal and regional councils from around Ontario which call on
your Government to enact the Ontarians with Disabilities Act. The same can
be said for the three unanimous resolutions passed by the Ontario Legislature
since you took office on this topic. They together call for the Ontarians with
Disabilities Act to be passed which is strong and effective and which embodies
the 11 principles that we have put forward.

This public support is even further amplified by the December 2000 Queen's
Park news conference by representatives of several major seniors' organizations.
They added their voices to the grassroots voices of people with disabilities
right across Ontario pressing for this legislation to be enacted.

The need for us to meet with you is now more pressing than ever to discuss
this. We need the leadership of the Premier and the Premier's office. Let's work
together to achieve what the public wants, what we need, and what we have been
promised, a strong and effective Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
