ELECTION 1999

POSITION OF THE THREE PROVINICAL PARTIES
re: Ontarians with Disabilities Act

The Position of the Progressive Conversatives:

The Conservative Party of Mike Harris has made no election commitment prior to this campaign regarding the Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

In the 1995 campaign he made a written pre-election promise to both enact the Ontarians with Disabiltiies Act in his first term, and to work with the Ontarians with Disabilities Act Committee to develop it.   Follow this link to read Mike Harris' election promise.   He did neither.

He never passed the Ontarians with Disabilities Actand never met with the ODA Committee.   Follow this link to read our the ODA Committee Press Release: Harris Election Call Breaks His 1995 Election Promise To 1.5 Million Ontarians With Disabilities.

Four years after the fact, his Minister responsible made the false claim that all the Harris Government had pledged was to "introduce" this law, not to actually pass it into law.   Follow this link to read the ODA Committee Press Release: Is Harris Government Attempting To Re-Write Its 1995 Election Promise To Ontarians With Disabilities?

The Position of the Liberals:

After pressing the Harris Government for four years to keep their 1995 election promise, Dalton McGuinty promised this year in writing that a Liberal Government would pass a strong Ontarians with Disabilities Act within the first three years in office.   Follow this LINK to read dalton McGuinty's letter to the ODA Committee.

The Position of the NDP:

After pressing the Harris Government for four years to keep their 1995 election promise, Howard Hampton promised in writing this year that an NDP Government would pass a strong Ontarians with Disabilities Act within the first two years in office.   Follow this LINK to read Howard Hampton's letter to the ODA Committee.
