Dear Premier Harris:

Re: Ontarians with Disabilities Act

We are very pleased to let you know that both the Liberal and New Democratic parties have expressed their support for the Ontarians with Disabilities Act to be a matter of priority for the upcoming term. They have also accepted our proposals regarding the forthcoming consultation, including our recommendation that it involve a Select Committee of the Legislature holding public hearings before the legislation is drafted. I include with this letter the text of the letters we have received from the leaders of both parties.

We hope that your Citizenship Minister, Helen Johns, will be able to give us a similar commitment on behalf of the government when we meet with her next Tuesday, September 28th. This would provide an important fresh start on the road to a strong and effective Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

Sincerely,

David Lepofsky, CM
Chair, Ontarians with Disabilities Act Committee
