Howard Hampton, MPP
Leader of the New Democratic Party
Room 372 East Wing
P.O. Box 1780 Legislative Building
Toronto, Ontario

Dear Mr. Hampton,

On October 13, 1998, Dwight Duncan, Liberal MPP., tabled a resolution asking the Legislature to formally declare that an Ontarians with Disabilities Act must incorporate the 11 core principles set out in the resolution in order for it to be strong and effective. We are writing to formally request your Party's support of this resolution.

These principles form the basis of the ODA Committee's submissions to the Government in 1995, 1996 and 1998. They are subscribed to by all of the many, many individual members belong to the ODA Committee across the province and by the 85 organizational members.

We hope and trust that your Party will support this resolution, just as it supported the resolution on the Ontarians with Disabilities Act tabled by MPP Marion Boyd in May of 1996. If your party decides not to support this Resolution we ask that you permit members of your caucus to vote based on their own conscience. Many of our members have visited with MPPs across the Province throughout the summer to educate them about the need for a strong and effective ODA. Many MPPs have indicated support. We trust that you will allow those members to make their support known publicly. We look forward to hearing from you on this important matter.

Sincerely,

M. David Lepofsky, C.M.
