The Honourable Michael Harris
Room 281, Legislative Building

Dear Premier Harris:

Re: Ontarians with Disabilities Act

Thank you for your October 7th letter. While we appreciate the opportunity to meet with the Minister it is also important that we meet with you. At our September 28th meeting with Minister Johns, she kindly agreed to convey to you again our request to meet with you and to encourage you to meet with us. Your leadership on this matter is very much needed because it was you who promised to personally work together with us to develop this new law. This is a matter that cuts across the mandates of all Ministries. Your commitment and leadership are necessary for this initiative to succeed.

We shall be eagerly looking to the upcoming October 21st Throne Speech for an announcement regarding the promised new consultation on the Ontarians with Disabilities Act. An announcement that this consultation will take the form of a Select Committee of the Legislature which holds public hearings across the Province would give a positive signal to the 1.5 million Ontarians with disabilities that your government sees this legislation as a high priority.

Again, we hope you will reconsider your position and agree to meet with us.

Sincerely,

David Lepofsky, CM
Chair, Ontarians with Disabilities Act Committee
